A refurbishment of the lifts, carried out by the hospital’s Estates Team, gave ArtCare the opportunity to create a more visually appealing display for the many patients, staff and visitors who use the lifts every day.
This project has been about creating an enjoyable experience of the building and a conversation starter, connecting with the local population and recognizing unique local stories as a valuable part of our healthcare history. Tired, shabby lifts have been transformed into time capsules and have the added benefit in making part of our history collection accessible. The project has been short-listed for a Striving for Excellence award in November 2016.
The Salisbury Hospital League of Friends kindly funded the design of the panels for the project, which also helped secure our successful £40,000 Heritage Lottery Fund bid to archive and expand the healthcare history collection.
