The League of Friends are pleased to announce they are funding improvements to Downton Ward to create an up-to-date, fresh and welcoming atmosphere for patients. The present environment is tired, orientation on the ward is difficult for patients and confusion arises during arrival check-in. The ward has limited space and windows that overlook the industrial laundry building.
The funding will enable the installation of focal point artworks and decorative ceiling tiles, the de-cluttering of old noticeboards and installing window film to improve the views in ward areas. ArtCare, the hospital's arts in health team, will be designing and installing the artworks.
Paula Dawson, Senior Sister said, “This small project will have a big impact on our ward environment. It will help to create welcome and a sense of arrival, alleviate patient & visitor confusion and aid in clearly identifying different areas. The improvements will increase staff pride in presenting and maintaining an up-to-date patient environment. The window film will be an interesting distraction for patients and will help with privacy. The single room used for isolated or the most unwell patients will have ceiling tiles visible from bed and a local landscape artwork will provide a virtual view to the outside world.”
